Program Information

The Farabius Academy of Music offers group sessions for those who want to learn how to compose music. We would love to help you learn music composition from our certified educators. We offer group lessons through an innovative and engaging curriculum for our students. Our unique approach to musical education facilitates a fast and practical learning experience for students.

Before starting this course, we do a free assessment, and once we have determined your level,  you can attend at your right level. In this certificate program, you will learn the skills necessary for success as a composer, including harmony I and musical instruments and Orchestra I.

There will also be weekly compositional assignments, allowing you to practice more writing. In these assignments, you will get real-life practice using the information and techniques learned in each skill to write and develop your own harmonic progressions. We do monthly assessments, which is a necessary part of the learning process; it helps us measure whether our students have really learned what we want them to learn. At the end of the course, you get a certificate in Music Composition 2.

Each online lesson takes place between one teacher and up to 5 students, and each skill lasts for 90 minutes (90 min/harmony, 90min/musical instruments and orchestra.)

 

What is harmony in music?

Harmony is when multiple notes or voices play together at the same time to produce a new sound.

What are the musical instruments and orchestra?

Musical instruments and orchestra are about orchestral instruments, their notation, ranges, transposition, register strengths, playing techniques, and dynamic ability.

What is counterpoint in music?

Counterpoint is a conversation between different melodic lines or voices in a musical composition, which are harmonically interdependent yet independent in rhythm and melodic.

Why should I learn these elements?

Learning those elements not only makes you a better and more informed composer, but it gives you more tools at your disposal, makes you stronger in every aspect of your art, and also provides you with solutions.

 

Goals:

We can help you to understand composition to a new level and make you a better composer.

In this program, you will learn about modes, chord scales and tensions, and a modal interchange: melodic, harmonic and rhythmic development and some compositional techniques. Also, you will learn about musical texture and how rhythm, melody, and harmony are combined. You will gain a solid understanding of music fundamentals while building your own music. You will learn how to use these elements to create a desired musical atmosphere.

 

Requirements

• Students need to have knowledge of music theory and solfège. If you do not already have a basic knowledge of music theory, it is recommended that you take pre-composition or a music theory course before enrolling in this course.
• Although not a necessity, it is very beneficial that students have some ability to play an instrument.
