In this certificate program, you will learn the skills necessary for success as a composer. Farabius advanced composition certificate program prepares you to write music for solo instruments, voices, different musical ensembles and orchestra. You work with a professional composer who will mentor you as you compose original music and expand your portfolio. You’ll receive expert feedback to refine your skills in music composition.
This course incorporates more advanced techniques and concepts for contemporary composition and culminates in completing the student's individual major composition project. In this course, students also analyze the characteristics of various musical styles and eras, and compose appropriate music for various creative and professional settings. Students work with the elements of tone, texture and timbre in their own compositions and learn how to use them to create a desired musical atmosphere.
Each online lesson takes place between one teacher and one student for either 30, 45 or 60 minutes. (to be more effective, we highly recommend you to enroll for 60-minute sessions).
Requirements:
Students need to have knowledge of music theory and solfège.
Students need to have knowledge of harmony, orchestration, and counterpoint.
Although not a necessity, it is very beneficial that students have some ability to play an instrument.
