Kouhyar was born in Babolsar – Iran, in1978. He is a virtuoso of Tar and Setar. He had opportunity to start learning Setar and Tar with mentor teacher Abbas Yadollahi and Master Jalal Heydari and to enhance his experiences with Master Fariborz Azizi and prominent tar player Hamid Khabazi. Moreover, he closely worked with Master Hossein Alizadeh (a leading internationally recognized Iranian musician and composer) to practice his playing style. Kouhyar also had a great opportunity to attend a Tar masterclass led by Mohammad Reza Lotfi - another internationally recognized Iranian classical musician renowned for his mastery of the Tar and Setar.
With his longtime friend and colleague Nima Safaei, he founded Raz-e-Mehr ensemble in 2001; as the group's leader, he won first place at a national music festival.

Collaboration with Astan Ensemble under the direction of esteemed artist Bashir Faramarzi - Iranian musician and composer living in Montreal.
Collaboration with Diba band founded in Montreal under the supervision of the esteemed artist Reza Abai.
Collaboration with the Constantinople group in Montreal under the direction of the esteemed artist Kia Tabasian.
Collaboration with Sarv Cultural and Artistic Institute, Toronto.
Collaboration with Astan Group in the production of Ghazlvareh .
Collaboration with Chang Group to produce Saze Shbangahi album - composed by Ramin Safaei and sung by Vahid Taj
