Daughter of the luthier Michele Sangineto, Caterina Sangineto grew up in the artistic milieu of her father. At the age of 6, she learnt to play some chordophones of the European tradition (bowed and plucked psaltery, harp). At 8, she began devoting herself to the Medieval and Renaissance repertoire motivated by the music paleographer and medievalist Giovanna Motta and performed during several historical reenactments. From 2000 onward, with the group Ensemble Sangineto, which she founded with her brother, she explores a heterogeneous and vast repertoire from Medieval music to folk music of English, Irish and French tradition. She takes part in concert seasons and prestigious Early Music and Celtic festivals in Italy, Europe, and Russia. At the “G. Verdi” Conservatory of Milan, she studied modern flute with Rocco Abate, recorder, and Baroque transverse flute with G. Battista Columbro. Under the supervision of Francesca Torelli, she worked on the English and Italian vocal repertoire of early Baroque and performed as a soloist singer. In 2021 she obtained the Bachelor’s degree in Renaissance and Baroque singing from the “G. Cantelli” Conservatory of Novara with Roberto Balconi.
She collaborates with several Folk and Early music groups as a singer and multi-instrumentalist (Ensemble Sangineto, Lyradanz, Talamh, Antica Liuteria Sangineto, Cloris Ensemble) and has several albums at her credit.
In October 2019 was released the album Leonardo, il suono del genio of her group Antica Liuteria Sangineto,
Which focuses on Renaissance repertoire (XV-XVI c.).
As a singer, she took part in recordings for soundtracks of films and short films and as an actress, musician, and singer in the RAI TV program for kids “Melevisione” (2013-2014).
She worked for three years as a teacher in a high school choral program (for teens from 14 to 18, polyphonic repertoire) and four years in primary school music, dance, and theatre projects. She regularly gives singing workshops on Italian folk or Celtic repertoire and Bowed Psaltery 2 workshops in World-Music, Folk festivals.
